Role Overview
The Stringwood Chamber Music Festival seeks thoughtful, responsible Residence Life Assistants to help foster a welcoming, inclusive, and safe residential community for advanced high school and collegiate musicians. Based at the Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro, MN, this high-impact seasonal position plays a vital role in supporting students throughout our premier summer festival.
Residence Life Assistants serve as trusted points of contact for students and staff, helping ensure a positive and well-organized on-campus experience. For the duration of the contract in early to mid-August, staff are provided with a private single room with a private bath, along with all meals.
Key Responsibilities
• Residential logistics: Coordinate student arrivals, orientations, and departures, including dormitory check-in/check-out procedures and leading informational sessions.
• Student support: Serve as a primary liaison between students and festival staff, assisting with day-to-day campus life needs and communicating essential information.
• Community standards: Help cultivate a respectful living-learning environment by upholding Stringwood policies and conducting periodic spot checks of residence halls and common spaces.
• Transportation support: Drive students to off-site activities or errands and provide transportation for guest artists as needed.
• Safety and wellness: Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations, guide students through established emergency protocols, and participate in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Festival operations: Provide support for concerts and events, including ticketing, office assistance, housekeeping coordination, and general campus support as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
• Must be 22 years of age or older.
• At least one year of experience supervising students, serving as a resident assistant, or working in a comparable role.
Preferred
• Background in music performance or academic study (not required).
Skills and Attributes
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to enforce expectations clearly while maintaining supportive, professional relationships.
• Sound judgment, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow direction while independently managing tasks from start to completion.
• Capacity to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications.
• Experience with audio and video recording is a plus.
Licenses and Travel
• Valid U.S. driver’s license required; position may involve driving a passenger van.
Compensation and Benefits
• Compensation: $800 per week; minimum two-week contract.
• Housing: Private single room with private bath; linens provided.
• Meals: Three on-campus meals daily.
• Festival access: Complimentary access to Stringwood concerts, open rehearsals, and master classes.
